My Story

Hi, I’m Maija, a certified Mat Pilates teacher based in Midlothian, Scotland. I grew up in Central Finland surrounded by nature and an active lifestyle.

However, most of my adult life, I have lived away from home. I’ve always been adventurous and curious about the world, which led me to pursue a career at sea in the Superyacht industry.

Fortunately, I joined a yacht with a strong focus on sports, which gave me the opportunity to pursue marathon running, road cycling, and mountain biking — all while working onboard and traveling the world.

Throughout my years I had a chance to challenge myself in various endurance events including:  9 marathons around the globe, run and cycle 600km across the untouched and grueling Namibian desert, mountain bike The Kap Sani2Sea 270km mountain bike race, run 120km of the untamed coastline of South Africa (called Wild Coast), and participate in an Iron Man 70.3 competition (Palma de Mallorca).

Pilates came into my life after my pregnancies as a low-impact option that I was able to do from home. I was immediately hooked. It was easily accessible and supportive, and in just short sessions, it kept me feeling strong and focused, which also helped as a new stay-at-home mum.

However, I truly came to appreciate the benefits of Pilates after the birth of my second child, which left me with significant muscular imbalances and lower back issues. With Pilates, I was able to rebuild my strength, address muscular imbalances, release tension, and get back to running.  It also gave me a much deeper body awareness and a stronger mind-body connection.

Pilates is now my foundation. It keeps me strong, mobile, injury-free, and ready for everything I love to do.

With my passion for movement, I decided to become a Pilates teacher and hope to help others move better, feel stronger, and have better body awareness. I’m passionate about creating a Pilates community that inspires movement, connection, and joy. Together, we’ll build strong, mobile bodies that support us in everyday life—and have fun doing it!
